We are seeking a confident, credible, and child-focused professional with the ability to provide constructive challenge while maintaining strong relationships across the organization. The ideal candidate will be relational, trauma-informed, and experienced in safeguarding and quality assurance roles.
What the job involves
As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will chair statutory child looked after reviews and child protection conferences, monitor and quality assure care planning, and ensure children's voices are central to decision-making. You will work collaboratively with social workers and partner agencies, track individual cases, and escalate concerns through dispute resolution processes. The role also involves acting as a Local Authority Designated Officer when required and contributing to service improvement initiatives.
Skills
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
- Five years post-qualifying experience
- Experience with children looked after and child protection
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation
- Excellent analytical, report-writing, and decision-making skills
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience in service improvement and quality assurance
- Confidence in working independently
